Actual Status of Literary Persons in Honam Area Based on Critical Data by Huhgyun

This study aims to identify aspects and features of literary persons in Honam area from various data centering on critical data by Huhgyun to consider their values. Huhgyun s representative critical books include the『Haksanchodam』and the『Seongsoosihwa』, through which he showed his own critical opinions and provided future directions for literary circles as well. At that time, many literary persons gave their own criticism, which was led by those in Honam area. And he did not significantly consider their surrounding circumstances when he wrote prefaces and epilogues for Kim, Gong-Hee and Yang, Dae-Bak. In particular, Yang, Dae-Bak had limited social status that was hard to be exposed outside in consideration of the social atmosphere at that time. However, Huh accepted Yang with a different view from that of conservative literary persons at that time and wrote a preface for Yang, recognizing his writing ability and personality. Huhgyun is a pure literary person who valued affection and personality of man. Therefore, his criticism was also oriented toward literary art. With such intent, he provided a chance to naturally confirm literary tastes of literary persons in Honam area.
