燕巖의 ‘離別論’을 통해서 본 江淹의 <別賦> 수용 양상 고찰

A Study on the Acceptance Pattern of the Byulbu by Gangum through the Farewell Theory by Yeonam

燕巖의 ‘離別論’은 <熱河日記>의 한 대목으로, 江淹의 <別賦>를 모티브로 하여 <別賦>를 수용한 양상을 보여주고 있는데, 본고는 이를 바탕으로 燕巖 개별 작품의 특성을 검토하고자 했다. 江淹의 <別賦>는 유미주의적 성향을 다분히 드러내는 정감과 묘사에 탁월한 장르적 속성을 지니고 있는데, 전통의 일탈 혹은 새로운 것에 대한 갈망으로 인한 정신은 燕巖을 위시한 조선 시대의 문학 정신 전반에 적지 않은 영향을 끼쳤다고 보는 것을 전제한 논의이다. 燕巖은 서두에서 이별의 분위기와 장소를 부각하다가 논조를 바꾸고 있는데, <別賦>의 주요 대목에서 이별의 분위기를 자아내는 정서와 장소 및 소재를 염두에 둔 표현이라는 것을 유추할 수 있다. 이는 燕巖 자신이 지금의 이별하는 심정을 애통하게 표현하려는 의도적 수법으로 보인다. 즉 연암은 江淹의 <別賦>를 굳이 비판대상으로 이별을 당면한 마음을 표현하였다. 燕巖은 독자들로 하여금 江淹의 <別賦>를 충분히 인식하고 있다고 전제하고 있으며, <別賦>의 내용을 비판적이면서도 새로운 작품으로 재구하였다. 江淹이 <別賦>에서 ‘부유한 자들의 이별’이나 ‘任俠’, ‘從軍’, ‘伉儷’ 등의 이별 유형은 축약하고, 중국 문인들의 ‘出使’나 ‘遊宦’의 이별의 정한의 경우를 들어 우리나라 사람들이 사신 갈 때의 처지와 비슷한 정황으로 시선을 옮겨오고 있으며, 배따라기곡을 배치하는 등 청나라를 대하는 복합적 심리를 드러내고 있다. 아울러 燕巖이 처한 이별의 상황과 정황, 그리고 우리나라의 처지에 따른 생이별의 아픔을 소현세자의 경우를 떠올리고 이에 공감하며 가슴 속의 울분을 증폭시키고 있는데 활용하였다. 본고는 이러한 <別賦>의 수용 양상의 연구 방법론과 결과가 燕巖 ‘離別論’을 이해하고 분석하는 연구 방식에 있어 타당성이 있는지 모색해 보고자 하였다.

The Farewell Theory by Yeonam is a part of the passage in Yeolha Ilgi. I attempt to discuss and grasp the meaning of the characteristics of each individual works by Yeonam by way of the acceptance pattern of the Byulbu by Gangum of which the motif is based on the Byulbu by Gangum. The Byulbu by Gangum has genre features that is outstanding in the feelings of warmth and the depiction reflecting aesthetic inclination of the Jinhan Dynasty. The yearning for the newness and the deviation from the tradition had an enormous effect on the spirit of literature during the Yi Dynasty epoc at large including Yeonam. He made the mood and the locus of the parting and divert the tone of argument, and it can be recognized with ease that he expressed in that way, keeping the mood and the material of the parting in mind described in the main passages of Byulbu. Yeonam himself expresses the farewell feelings with sadness, saying in sour-grapes humor showing a forced. This paper tries to express the mind confronting farewell criticizing the Byulbu by Gangum. He made a premise that readers recognize the Byulbu fully. Wecan comprehend the psychological states treating Chung Dynasty, overleaping the appreciation of the contents of the Byulbu. He amplified the resentment in the heart, symphasizing the circumstances of Yeonam’s parting at that time and the pains of farewell faced by our country by summoning and reminding the Crown Prince Sohyeon. This paper attemps to seek the validity of the research mothodology and results of the acceptance pattern mentioned above in the research methods of understanding and analyzing the literature of Yeonam.
