A Study on the Life and Poetry World of Kiheon Jo Byeong-seon(寄軒 曺秉善)

기헌 조병선(1873~1956)은 대구 칠곡에서 태어나 살다간 문인지식인이다. 조선 시대 대구는 감영이 있었던 행정중심도시로써 영남을 통할하였다. 시인들과 학자들이 많지는 않지만 경상도에서 대구의 위상을 생각해볼 때 한문학의 전개 양상에 대한 연구가 요구된다. 기헌은 한말과 일제강점기 시대 대구 지역의 시사활동과 문학을 이해하기 위해 연구가 필요한 인물이다. 또 그가 조성하고 경영한 心遠亭이라는 공간 역시 대구 문화에서 유심히 살펴볼 만한 가치가 있는 문화공간이다. 본고는 기헌에 대한 첫 연구이므로 그의 생애, 저술, 교유 인물, 저술 등에 대한 기초정보를 조사하여 학계에 제공하고, 일제강점기를 살다간 그의 삶과 시대 의식에 대해 간략하게 살펴보았다. 그리고 초기 시작품을 중심으로 나라를 잃은 문인지식인의 좌절과 희망, 그리고 역사의식과 민족의식 등을 살펴보았다.

Kiheon Jo Byeong-seon(1873~1956) is a literary intellectual who was born and lived in Chilgok, Daegu(漆谷 大邱). During the Joseon Dynasty, Daegu was an administrative center city that governed the Yeongnam region as Gamyeong(監營) was located. Although there are not many poets and scholars, research on the development of Chinese literature is required considering Daegu s status in the Yeongnam region. Kiheon is a person who needs research to understand the activities and literature of the poet club(詩社) in Daegu. In addition, the space called Shimwonjeong(心遠亭), which he built and managed, is also a cultural space worth a close look at in Daegu culture. This paper is the first study of Kiheon. Therefore, basic information on his life, writing, companionship characters, and writing was investigated and provided to the academic world. And I briefly looked at his life and the consciousness of the times when he lived in Japanese colonial era. Based on this, the frustration, hope, historical consciousness, and national consciousness of literary intellectuals who lost their country were examined, focusing on the initial prototype.
