This article is devoted to the study of the role of the language game with abbreviations in the newspaper text. The analysis of the headlines and texts of newspaper articles of the Russian Federation and The Republic of Kazakhstan revealed the following ways of the language game in abbreviation: double motivation, graphic game (capitalization, pseudo motivation, graphic highlighting in contaminated formations, graphic-hybridization (using Latin letters), etc. The so-called parody abbreviations were specially created by journalists with the installation on a comic effect. Game decryption of abbreviations (desabbreviation) is also described in the article. The author believes that the material collected can be useful in the Russian language classes when studying a newspaper language in a foreign audience, as well as in some master s and postgraduate courses.
