TORFL(Test of Russian as a Foreign Language) Teaching Model Using Flipped Learning: Focusing on elementary level, speaking

Modern society is said to be in the age of globalization. Without a doubt, multiculturalism and transnational socialization are the reality that we face. As a result, foreign languages are becoming a key element to enhance individual and corporate competitiveness. To measure these foreign language skills, Foreign Language Proficiency Tests have been widely adopted. TORFL is one of the proficiency tests for the Russian language. It consists of 6 levels (Elementary Level, Basic Level, and four levels of certificates) in 5 core parts (grammar/ vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking). Russian learners at the elementary level tend to face particularly high difficulty in speaking. Since listening and speaking account for two-thirds of actual communication, researches on various learning methods is being actively conducted at present. In this article, we propose a new development method and teaching model for speaking at the elementary level using Flipped Learning . We present the various problems that may arise during the development process and give a guideline how to overcome them as well as how to maximize the educational effects on students in real-world scenarios.
