The phonetics of the Vuk’s work basically agrees with јezera-šarani dialect. In detail and in speech nuances, there are obvious minor differences. They could not be verified as meaningful dialects. Reflexes of jat in Vuk s work, especially during the first period of his work, are not identical with the reflex of the jat of јezera-šarani dialect. Something is closer to this dialect in the second and third periods of work, although at that time we do not find reflections in his work as јezera-šarani dialect is known to. The discrepancies are also present in connection with: iotation dentals d and t, spirations s and z, in connection with the shift of groups pj, bj, vj, mj, in connection with vocal reductions, consonant groups and many other details present in the јezera-šarani dialect, and there are not any of them in Vuk’s Rječnik in his written word. These disagreements are a consequence of the time distance and are a reflection of the special development of the dialect of Vuk s homeland with dialects in the surroundings and the dialect of the homeland of Vuk s ancestors within the ijekavian eastherzegovinian dialect. Territorial separation, in addition to time distance, also had a significant impact.
