A Study on Acoustic Characteristics of the Palatalization of Russian Native Speakers and Korean Learners

  • 17

This study aims at the study of acoustic characteristics of the palatalization of Russian Native Speakers and Korean Learners, for this it examined characteristics of the place of articulation through the F1 and F2 values, and it examined characteristics of the manner of articulation through environment of palatalized sounds, changes of intensity of palatalized sounds and changes of intensity of V2. This study showed that F1 and F2 values, representing characteristics of the place of articulation, do not show significant differences between Russian Native Speakers and Korean Learners, but showed that length of palatalized sounds, changes of intensity of palatalized sounds and changes of intensity of V2, representing characteristics of the manner of articulation, show much differences between Russian Native Speakers and Korean Learners. That is to say, the length of palatalized sounds of Russian Native Speakers is 0.112s, but the length of palatalized sounds of Korean Learners is 0.006s, eventually length of Russian Native Speakers is relatively long; and Russian Native Speakers have the highest elevation in the 2/5 position at change of intensity of palatalized sounds, but Korean Learners have gradually rising curve at change of intensity of palatalized sounds and intensity of the sound is concentrated at the end; and Russian Native Speakers have the highest elevation in the 1/5 position at change of intensity of palatalized sounds, but Korean Learners have the highest elevation in the 2/5 position. And compared to the pronunciation of the same palatalized sounds between Korean Learners and Russian Native Speakers, this study showed that 0.061s(CD) and 0.137s(AD) appears before and after palatalized sounds in the pronunciation of Korean Learners, and changes in the shape and intensity of the palatalized sound itself access to significant changes in the strength of the Russian native Speakers. But this study showed that Korean Learners have many differences in the Russian native Speakers in the pronunciation of intensity of V2. Intensity ratio of V2 of Korean learners represents an average of 49.07% and intensity ratio of V2 of Russian native Speakers represents an average of 19.8%. Then it needs to be emphasized that Korean Learners should noted that the intensity of the sound is to be concentrated in the front part of the V2 in order to correctly pronounce the Russian palatalized sounds.
