Linguistic and textological characteristics of Biblical phrases in «Pchela» from the viewpoint of “Risks and Opportunities”: On the basis of the Biblical phrases from the New Testament

Old Russian translation of “Pchela” is one of the most interesting and significant monuments in the literary history of Russia. It is an anthology of famous Biblical phrases, works of Church leaders, philosophers and authors of ancient Greek and Rome. In this paper have been analyzed linguistic and textological characteristics of Biblical phrases from the New Testament in “Pchela” and classified these Biblical phrases into two categories according to the form and content. This type of analysis has been based on the viewpoint of “Risks and Opportunities”, which will lead to some significant results. Therefore, it has been turned out that classification of Biblical phrases by the form is related to the linguistic characteristics and has its meaning from the translational point of view, whereas classification of Biblical phrases by the content is related to the textological characteristics and has its meaning from the moral and ethical point of view. By means of such a linguistic and textological method of analysis we could find out some useful and meaningful conclusions concerning the attitude of Old Russian translators about the Bible. It seems to be a tendency that Old Russian writers and translators wanted to encourage patriotism and the national spirit of Russians with the help of active using well-known and widespread Biblical phrases in their works. The model “Risks and Opportunities” as a useful method of interpretation really helps to understand the intention of Old Russian compilers as it has been seen in this article.
