Phatic markers in great translation dictionaries

This article attempts to indicate groups of lexical units which are not always found or differently entered into great bilingual dictionaries: Polish-Czech, Polish-Russian and Czech-Russian. One of these groups includes phatic markers which constitute an essential part of everyday communication. These units present in everyday communication contribute to appropriate dynamics of conversation, activate interlocutor’s perception and are an essential construction element combining and segmenting the conversation. The analysis of great dictionaries suggests that phatic markers are entered to different extents. There are two causes of this. The first one is the existing approach on non-prescriptivism of certain markers (especially ‘wiesz’ i.e. you know, and ‘rozumiesz’ i.e. you see and their Czech and Russian equivalents). The second one is related to difficulties with determining their mutual equivalence. The article also contributes to author’s considerations concerning complex notation of phatic markers in great dictionaries and their translatability.
