The purpose of this research is to investigate the meaning of a Russian verb of motion, IDTI from a point of view of Cognitive Linguistics. The semantics of Russian verbs of motion is very complicated and has been considered as an example of irregularity of linguistic phenomena. The meanings of the verb are related with each other and this relationship can be explained through the concept of semantic network. The meaning of movement can be extended to abstract entities that cannot move physically such as time, mountains, etc. The prototypical meaning is a conceptual basis which helps us understand the entire semantic domain of IDTI in Russian. This relationship between prototype and non-prototypical meanings is not a question of inclusion or exclusion of semantic features, but a question of family resemblance. This semantic description of Russian IDTI will help lexicographers decide the semantic hierarchy of the meanings of IDTI and will be also helpful to ordinary language users.
