The aim of the article is to prove that there exist different types of the formal explication of categorical meaning in contemporary Russian word-formation system. In order to prove this, the derivational bases of nouns with formant -сmбо and with other suffixes have been analyzed and their semantic peculiarities have been obtained in the context. The following issues are discussed: (1) how textual derivatives are formed; (2) how their meanings are revealed; (3) how their relations to other lexical units belonging to the same word-formation categories are manifested.
