The Structural Relationships Among Parenting Attitude, Student-teacher Relationship, Peer Relationship, Grit, Depression: Multi-group Analysis by School Level

목적 본 연구는 부모양육태도, 교사관계, 교우관계, 그릿, 우울 간의 관계에서 그릿의 매개효과를 검증하고 학교급에 따른 차이를 알아보고자 하였다. 방법 이를 위하여 ‘2018년 한국아동⋅청소년 패널조사’ 1차년도 자료에서 수집된 전국의 초등학교 4학년 2,607명과 중학교 1학년 2,590명으로 총 5,197명의 데이터가 활용되었다. 자료는 구조방정식 모형으로 분석하였고, 학교급에 따른 차이를 알아보고자 다집단 분석을 실시하였다. 결과 첫째, 부모양육태도, 교우관계, 그릿은 우울에 직접적 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 부모양육태도, 교사관계, 교우관계는 그릿에 모두 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 부모양육태도, 교사관계, 교우관계는 그릿을 매개로 우울에 유의한 영향을 주었다. 넷째, 학교급에 따른 다집단 분석 결과, 부모양육태도가 그릿에 미치는 영향과 그릿이 우울에 미치는 영향에서 두 집단간에 차이가 나타났다. 부모양육태도가 그릿에 미치는 영향은 초등학교 집단이 중학교 집단보다 높게 나타났다. 또한 그릿이 우울에 미치는 영향은 중학교 집단이 초등학교 집단보다 더 높게 나타났다. 결론 이러한 연구결과는 아동과 청소년의 우울을 예방하는 보호요인으로 부모양육태도, 교사관계, 교우관계 뿐만 아니라 그릿의 중요성을 시사한다.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to identify the mediating effect of grit in the relationship between parenting attitude, student-teacher relationship, peer relationship, grit, and depression and to investigate differences according to school level. Methods A total of 5197 children and adolescent data were used for the study, 2607 fourth graders in elementary schools and 2590 first graders in middle schools across the country, which were collected from the “2018 Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey”. The data were analyzed in a structural equation model and analyzed differences in school level in a multi-group analysis. Results First, parenting attitudes, peer relationship, and grit directly affected depression. Second, parenting attitudes, student-teacher relationship and peer relationship all had a significant effect on grit. Third, parenting attitudes, student-teacher relationships and peer relationship had a significant influence on depression through mediation of grit. Fourth, as a result of multi-group analysis based on school level, there was a difference between the two groups in the effect of parenting attitude on grit and grit on depression. The effect of parenting attitudes on grit was higher in the elementary school group than in the middle school group. In addition, the effect of grit on depression was higher in the middle school group than in the elementary school group. Conclusions These findings suggest the importance of grit as well as parenting attitude, student-teacher relationship, peer relationship as a protective factor to prevent depression in children and adolescents.
