This systematic review aimed to provide information that analyzed the usability of the functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to ensure appropriate future application in rehabilitation treatment. Three databases, including CINAHL, PubMed, and Web of Science, were used to collect literature for a total of 5 years, from January 2016 to December 2020. Using “fNIRS” AND (“Evaluation” OR “Therapy”) NOT “NIRS” as the search term, we selected and analyzed the final 33 articles that matched the selection criteria and exclusion criteria of this study. We summarized the articles based on country, field, study subjects, channel, and wavelength. We found that the United States has the most active research, with the largest number of studies on rehabilitation and neurological diseases. In addition, there have been many studies using 16 channels and 2 wavelengths. fNIRS is widely performed to verify the effectiveness of various disease-specific mediation analysis in several fields. In particular, it is expected to help determine the availability of new tools that can objectively prove the effectiveness of rehabilitation treatment for the nervous system and the direction of future utilization measures.
