청소년의 공감과 다문화 청소년에 관한 편견 간의 관계에서 다문화 태도의 매개효과

The effects of adolescents empathy on prejudice towards children of multicultural families with multicultural attitude as a mediator

본 연구의 목적은 청소년의 공감, 다문화 태도 및 다문화 청소년에 관한 편견의 구조적 관계를 살펴보고, 청소년의 공감이 다문화 청소년에 관한 편견에 미치는 영향에서 다문화 태도의 매개역할을 확인하는 것이다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 서울특별시와 부산광역시에 거주하는 고등학교 1-3학년 남녀 청소년 261명을 대상으로 설문조사를 하였다. 기술통계, 상관분석, 확인적 요인분석 및 구조방정식 모형 분석을 하였다. 분석결과를 살펴보면 첫째, 청소년의 공감, 다문화 태도, 다문화 청소년에 관한 편견 간에는 유의한 상관이 있었다. 둘째, 청소년의 공감은 다문화 청소년에 관한 편견에 직접 영향을 미치지 않고 다문화 태도를 완전매개하여 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 결과는 다문화 사회의 주요 집단인 다문화 청소년에 관한 청소년의 편견과 관련된 요인을 이해하게 하며 청소년의 편견 감소를 위한 교육 및 중재 프로그램 개발의 기초자료로 사용될 수 있다.

The major purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between adolescents empathy and prejudice towards children of multicultural families. This study determines the mediating effect of adolescent’s multicultural attitudes. The participant sample was derived from Seoul and Busan in Korea, and the data of 261 high school students was analyzed. To process the results, descriptive statistics, correlation coefficients, and confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling were employed. As a result, first, the adolescent’s empathy, multicultural attitudes, and prejudice were significantly related each other. Secondly, the adolescent’s multicultural attitudes was shown to fully mediate the effect of empathy on the prejudice. This study can be used as a standard for future development of interventions to decline adolescent’s prejudice.
