The Future of National Education and Korean Schools Leading the Era of Peace and Unification: Focused on the Documentary of Korean School

The “Korean School” in Japan is the most extensive and popular arena of solidarity and struggle that promotes the protection of national sovereignty and the achievement of basic democratic rights of Korean residents in Japan. After liberation, the establishment and development of National Education-Korean School as the most important driving force for forming the community of Korean residents in Japan lies. The realization and succession of national identity, protection of human rights, and anti-discrimination movements centered on the Korean School are an important stepping stone for solidifying the community of Korean residents in Japan and improving the rights and democratic procedures of minorities. This study focused on documentaries dealing with Korean Schools such as Children of Korea(1955), Our School(2006), One for All, All for One: 600,000 times of try(2013), A Crybaby Boxing Club(2014), The Sky-Blue Symphony: The Story of The Korean Schools In Japan(2016) and Korean Schools in Japan(2018). Through this, the study examined how their voices reproduce the Korean School and under what themes they reveal social and historical contexts. In addition, through the review of each documentary, it was revealed that the national education and Korean Schools of Korean residents in Japan are opening up the possibility of harmony by triggering the correct historical awareness and human rights awareness in Japanese society. It also revealed the future direction of the Korean School as a leading player in the era of peace in East Asia and the reunification of South and North Korea.
