Surgical treatment of jugular foramen tumors may develop significant complications such as facial nerve and lower cranial nerve palsies. Despite the advances in skull base surgery, newly developed postoperative lower cranial nerve deficits still represent a challenge. Petro-occipital transsigmoid approach(POTS) make it possible to remove the tumor and preserve lower cranial nerve functions in jugular foramen schwannoma. We conducted 2 cases petro-occipital transsigmoid approach (POTS) to remove jugular foramen schwannoma and preserved hearing and all the lower cranial nerve functions except temporary vagus nerve palsy. Such vocal cord palsy was resolved after several months postoperatively.
