Pituitary adenoma (PA) that usually develops in the anterior pituitary lobe is derived from the proliferation of the anterior wall of Rathke`s pouch. Rathke`s cleft cyst (RCC) is also generally believed to be the remnants of Rathke`s pouch. Although both pathologies share a common ancestry, the coincident discovery of PAs existing concurrently with RCC has been observed very rarely. The authors herein report a unique case of non-functioning PA associated with RCC. The embryological pathogenesis, radiographic characteristics, and treatment strategy of these concurrent sellar lesions are discussed.
