『深齋日記』의 자료적 가치와 활용방안에 대한 고찰

심재 조긍섭은 19세기 말 영남에서 활동했던 전통지식인이다. 현재 그의 글은 『深齋集』, 『巖棲集』, 『深齋續集』, 그리고 본고에서 본격적으로 다루고자 하는 『深齋日記』로 이루어져 있다. 『심재일기』는 조긍섭 스스로 자신의 일상을 기록한 것이다. 매일의 하루하루를 짤막한 기록으로 남기고 있어 이 자료를 바탕으로 그의 생애의 여러 국면들을 구체적으로 재구할 수 있으며, 그가 남긴 작품을 보다 깊이 이해할 수 있는 자료로서의 의미를 가진다. 그 중 본고에서는 『심재일기』가 시작되는 1898년 1월과 2월 두 달간의 일기를 본격적으로 검토하였다. 이 때 조긍섭은 26세의 젊은 나이로 영남 일대의 큰 스승인 서산 김흥락을 뵙기 위해 안동으로 향했다. 그 과정에서 영남 일대의 여러 학자들을 만나 그들과 교유를 맺었는데, 그 당시 방문했던 곳과 만났던 이들에 대한 기록이 일기에 상세히 기록되어 있다. 또한 금계와 도산 등 안동의 일대를 둘러보며 여러 편의 시를 남겼는데, 일기를 참조해보면 시를 지을 당시의 여정이나 함께 했던 인물 등 작품을 둘러싼 정황들을 밝힐 수 있으며 이를 통해 시에 묘사된 풍경, 그 당시 느꼈던 감회 등을 알 수 있어 보다 폭넓게 시를 해석할 수 있다. 또한 그 과정에서 시의 번역 역시 정확하게 이루어 질 수 있다. 이처럼 『심재일기』는 조긍섭의 생애를 보다 깊이 이해하고 그가 남긴 작품을 더욱 정확하게 해석하는데 있어 매우 중요한 자료이다. 때문에 앞으로 조긍섭의 삶과 문학을 이해하는데 있어 중요하게 검토되어야 할 자료라 하겠다.

Currently, his writing consists of 『深齋集』, 『巖棲集』, 『深齋續集』 and 『深齋日記』, which is intended to be dealt with in earnest in this paper. 『深齋日記』 is a record of Cho Geung-seop s daily life. Among them, this paper reviewed the diary for two months in January and February 1898, when the Diary began. At that time, Cho Geung-seop headed to Andong to meet Kim Heung-rak, a big teacher in Yeongnam, at the young age of 26. In the process, he met various scholars in Yeongnam and formed a friendship with them, and records of those who visited and met at that time are recorded in the diary in detail. In addition, he left several poems while looking around Andong, including Geumgye and Dosan, and if you look at the diary, you can reveal the circumstances surrounding the work, such as the journey at the time of writing the poem and the characters you felt at the time. In the process, the translation of poetry can also be done accurately. As such, 『深齋日記』 has a significant meaning as a very important material in understanding Cho Geung-seop s life more deeply and interpreting his work more accurately. Therefore, it is a material that must be reviewed in understanding Cho Geung-seop s life and literature in the future.
