황순원 소설에 나타난 인물들의 갈등 양상

황순원의 작품은 아직은 연구가 체계적으로 되지 않았고, 자료정리도 제대로 되지 않은 상태이다. 그러한 이유로 많은 비평들은 황순원 문학의 일부만을 다루는 것이 많았고 아직 정확하게 총정리 된 연구 문헌이 나와 있지 않은 상태에서 단편적인 황순원 연구가 대부분이다. 여기에서는 최근의 연구까지를 포괄하여 다시 형식적인 측면과 내용적인 측면으로 나누어 보고자 한다. 한 편의 소설을 그 구조가 지니고 있는 갈등으로 인하여 긴장이 유발되며 그 긴장은 소설구조 자체에 활력을 주게 된다. 갈등이 없는 소설은 소설다운 소설로서의 가치를 상실해 버릴 가능성이 크다. 그러므로 소설구조에 있어서 갈등은 절대 불가결한 요소라고 할 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 이를 바탕으로 등장하는 인물들의 갈등 양상에 따라 외적 갈등과 내적 갈등으로 분류하여 그것의 상호 관련성과 궁극적인 갈등의 극복형태를 파악하여 황순원 문학의 특정을 살펴보고자 한다. 황순원은 가장 집요한 주체의식이 인간의 내면으로 집중되어 있는 작가인 만큼 인물들의 고뇌와 갈등도 인간 내적인 문제에서 심화되어 갈 수밖에 없으리라 생각된다. 그러나 그의 인물들이 개인적 차원에서 갇혀 있는 단계를 벗어나 열린 사회에 지향으로 나가려는 의지를 보여줄 때 황순원 문학은 보다 힘 있는 모습으로 우리 앞에 설 수 있게 될 것이다.

Hwang Soon-won s work has not yet been systematically studied, and the data has not been properly organized. For that reason, many criticisms have dealt with only part of Hwang Soon-won s literature, and most of the fragmentary Hwang Soon-won s studies have not yet been compiled. Here, we will cover up to recent studies and divide them into formal and content aspects again. Tensions are caused by the conflict in the structure of a novel, and the tension gives vitality to the structure of the novel itself. Novels without conflict are likely to lose their value as novels. Therefore, it can be said that conflict is an absolutely indispensable factor in the novel structure. This paper aims to examine the characteristics of Hwang Soon-won s literature by classifying it into external and internal conflicts according to the conflict patterns of the characters appearing based on this. As Hwang Soon-won is a writer whose most persistent sense of subjectivity is concentrated inside humans, the agony and conflict of the characters are inevitably deepened in human internal problems. However, Hwang Soon-won s literature will be able to stand in front of us in a more powerful way when his characters show their willingness to move beyond the stage of being trapped at the individual level and toward an open society.
