The purpose of this study is to explore the new paradigm of school English education in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. For this, in this paper, the characteristics of the future society, future-oriented education, the core competencies needed in the future, and the future role of English are discussed. The future role of English was also examined. In addition, from the perspective of future education, the inefficiency of current school English education is analyzed. Based on these discussions and analyses, this paper suggests that the goal of future school English education should be to focus on the cultivation of the core competencies, utilization of advanced technologies, and the learners attitude toward cooperation. As for the content, education of not only English itself but also the knowledge and information in various areas, including special-purpose English, are emphasized. The effective utilization of digital textbooks is also discussed. It is further pointed out that smart learning and teaching with new technologies, like AI, blended lessons mixing online and offline classes, and an approach toward the cultivation of learners human character should be employed. Finally, this study makes suggestions on what should be changed to establish a new paradigm for future school English education.
