The purpose of this paper is to provide EFL learners with collocation information about nouns that collocate with the prepositions over and above so that EFL learners can understand and use them accurately. To this end, collostructional analysis is used as a corpus-based quantitative method to measure the semantic correlation between prepositions and noun collocates. Wmatrix is used to categorize semantic information on nouns combined with prepositions. The results of the analysis suggest that corpus-based analysis provides a detailed statistical description of the nouns appearing in the ‘preposition + noun’ construction. It further allows identification of the distributional difference for the noun occurrence in the given construction, and can therefore aid in correct use of the preposition by providing semantic information about its noun collocates.
