An Analysis of Phonics Instruction Approaches in Let s Go Phonics & Hooked-on Phonics in Korea

This study sets out with a purpose to identify more effective phonics instruction sequences for Korean young learners. For this purpose, it examines two major phonics instruction materials widely used in Korea based upon research findings regarding phonemic awareness and alphabetic principle. These findings can be reflected in phonics teaching instruction by presenting phonemes, not alphabet names, and incorporating syllabic units like onsets and rimes in tasks and activities. From this point of view, this study examines Let s Go Phonics and Hooked on Phonics and draws a comparative analysis of the materials.
