[일반론문] 선전지 『국립극장』을 통해 본 국립극장의 탄생

The Birth of National Theater of Korea through the Pamphlet National Theater of Korea

본고는 국립극장 설립 70주년과 관련해 극장의 창설과 직결되어 있는 선전지 『국립극장』을 개괄하며 극장 선전지의 역할에 대해 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그간 국립극장의 오랜 역사를 논의하는 저서들이 10주년마다 반복되어 출판되고 이 과정에서 극장의 역사를 다각적인 시선에서 조명하였지만, 극장 팸플릿의 역사에 대해서는 논의한 바 없다. 무엇보다 2000년대 이후 ‘월간공연예술 교양지’를 표방한 『미르』가 매월 발간되고 있으나, 극장 발행 선전물의 기원과 전개는 극장사 연구의 사각지대였다. 이 같은 점을 감안해서 본고는 팸플릿 『국립극장』을 통해 국립극장의 출발에 대해 논의하고, 이어 창간호에 담긴 매체와 극장의 지향점을 파악하려 한다. 마지막으로 북한과의 체제 경쟁 과정에서 국립극장 설립 및 초연작 <원술랑>이 갖는 의미를 논구함으로써 연극사 연구에서 극장 연구의 필요성을 살펴보도록 한다.

The Birth of National Theater of Korea through the Pamphlet National Theater of Korea aims to seek the role of the theater’s propaganda site by overviewing the pamphlet National Theater of Korea, which is directly linked to the creation of the theater, regarding the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the National Theater of Korea. Some papers and books discussing the long history of the National Th eater of Korea have been published repeatedly every 10 years and shed light on the history of the theater from various perspectives in the process, but no one has discussed the history of the theater pamphlet. Most of all, since the 2000s, the “Monthly Performing Arts Culture Jounal” Mir has been published every month, but the origin and development of theater-issued propaganda materials have been blind spots for theater company research. In light of this, I will discuss the departure of the theater through the pamphlet National Th eater of Korea, and then try to understand the direction of the theater and the media contained in the inaugural issue. Finally, I will analyze the signifi cance of the establishment of the National Th eater of Korea and the premiere of Wonsulang(元述郞) in the course of competition with North Korea, and discuss the need for theater research in the study of theatrical history.
