The meaning of the high-profile items and the title words included in the “Joseonmal Keun Sajeon”

이 글은 『조선말 큰사전』에 수록된 고소설 어휘의 전반적인 실태를 살펴봄으로써, 당대 사전 편찬자들이 지니고 있었던 ‘고소설’에 대한 인식, 사전 편찬 당시의 ‘고소설의 위상’ 등을 살펴본 것이다. 『조선말 큰사전』에서 가장 아쉬운 대목은 고소설의 중요한 작품이 대부분 등재되지 못했다는 점이다. 고소설의 대표적인 작품이라 할 수 있는 『홍길동전』, 『소대성전』, 『유충렬전』, 『조웅전』, 『숙향전』, 『숙영낭자전』 등은 이 사전에서는 볼 수 없다. 이는 중국소설 『삼국지연의』를 표제어로 제시한 것이나 심지어 이 소설에 등장하는 주인공 관우나 장비를 소개한 것과는 상반된 모습이다. 1920∼30년대에는 고소설 연구서로서 안확(安廓)의 『조선문학사』, 김태준의 『조선소설사』 등이 간행되었다. 그리고 이 책에 수록된 내용은 당시 여러 매체를 통해서 공간(公刊)되기도 했다. 그러나 『조선말 큰사전』에는 이러한 연구 성과가 제대로 반영되지 못했다. 그러나 이것은 사전 편찬자만의 문제는 아니다. 고소설과 관련된 중요한 어휘나 항목이 ‘사전’에 수록되기 위해서는 고소설의 의미, 한글소설이 지닌 함의를 적극적으로 알리는 고소설 연구자들의 역할도 필요하다. 『조선말 큰사전』의 아쉬움은 그런 사실을 일깨워주는 중요한 결과물이다.

This article examines the overall status of the high-profile vocabulary in the “Joseonmal Keun Sajeon,” which examines the perception of “Old Novels” held by dictionaries of the time, and the “Topology of Old Novels” at the time of dictionary compilation. The most regrettable part of the “Joseonmal Keun Sajeon” is that most of the important works of Gososeol were not registered. Hong Gil-dong, Sodae-seongjeon, Yoo Chung-ryul, Jo Woong-jeon, Sukhyang-jeon, and Sukyeong Nang-jajeon, which are the representative works of Goso theory, are not available in this dictionary. This is contrary to the Chinese novel titled “The Three Kingdoms of the Three Kingdoms” and even the introduction of the main characters of the novel, Guanyu and Equipment. In the 1930s and 1940s, “The History of Joseon Literature” by An Hwak(安廓) and “The History of Joseon Novels” by Kim Tae-jun(金台俊) were published. The contents of the book were then shared by various media outlets. However, the “Joseonmal Keun Sajeon” did not reflect this and published the dictionary. But this is not just a matter for the lexicographer. In order for important vocabulary or items related to the complaint to be included in the dictionary, it is not only a matter for the lexicographer, but also the role of the complaint researchers to actively inform the meaning of the complaint and the implications of the Korean novel. The regret of the “Joseonmal Keun Sajeon” is an important reminder of this fact.
