This study aims to find original design idea through the historical review of chiars which had been popular during each era. During old dynasty the chairs were monopolised by the king and the nobility. Those chairs were usually decorated with the ivory, gold and silver, and many kinds of jewerlies. The foot boxes were located in front of the chairs, because the chairs were relatively high, symbolising the dignity. A few of king s chairs had made of mable, brass, ivory rather than wood. During the baroque and rococo era the chair design had been very flamboyant and delicate. Meanwhile the religious group of America had developed the funtional chairs for people to rest on. The modern chair designers would get ideas from the past design on the basis of understanding of their historical background.
