Properties and Uses of Platanus Woods

Platanus species, with their fast-growing characteristics, have been planted in large quantities as the major streetside trees in Korea. Recently, however, there is a tendency that the Platanus steetside trees are gradually replaced by other species such as Ginkgo trees due to various civil petitions. Therefore, this study was carried out to exploit the utility value of their woods, which may be felled down from the streets in the future in large quantities. Emphasis was placed upon the investigation on macroscopic and microscopic wood anatomical charateristics, physical and mechanical properties of wood as an industrial raw material, and proper and better uses of their woods.
