A flush panel made of softwood frames is more subject to warp than that made of tropical hardwood frames due to the anatomical and physical characteristics of softwoods. In these days Furniture manufacturers in this country, however, want to make flush panels of softwood frames because of the shortage and sky-rocketing price of tropical hardwood lumbers. This is to examine the effect of pre-treatments, such as kerfing and decaying, on the warp reduction of flush panels made of softwood frames. A diagonal measuring method showed that none of flush panels warped after their 4-month outdoor storage. A warp table with dial gauges was made to measure the deformations of flush panels. The average deformation differences between maximum and minimum points of kerfing and control flush panels were, respectively, 4.15mm and 4.52mm, while that of decaying flush panels was 6.9mm. The deformation data of panels obtained with the warp table were revealed to be useto illustrate their warp patterns.
