A Study on the Use of Furniture as Behavior Settings

This paper elucidates what the concepts of affordance is and what its importance is, by examining the relationship between space and furniture as behavior settings. It has attempted to analyze human behavior in context of a holistic and co-active one. We should also understand that the basic course of human behavior is influenced by built environment and affordance that is immanent in culture, and that human behavior is a continuance of these behavioral settings. The significance of this study is that it offers a new framework of how territorial space can be created through integration of human behavior to produce environment of high qulity, and how social co-active vitalize the target space. This study has a meaning in suggesting a way to reinforce the opportunity of our survival in this critical situation where uniformity, human alienation, confusion of values and so on, are rampant; namely the problems could be solved by adjustment of furniture, applying not only artistic senses but also the scientific knowledge that human-environment relation is, considered from behavioral approach, a co-operative and organic one.
