Characteristics of Moisture Absorption for Heat-Compressed Wood

For producing compressed wood of sonamu(Pinus densiflora) by heat compression, our study dealt with such factors as the temperature and time of pressing. Recovery of the set and swelling of compressed wood by water impregnation and obsevation of cross section after hot pressing were investigated. It was tend to show recovery of set by water impregnation to thickness direction decreased as the pressing time and temperature increased. Recoveries of set in compressed wood made at 200 c for 50 min and 70 min by water absorption were just 12.5 percent and 7.4 percent, respectively. From the considerations of these results, it is concluded the more important factor was press temperature than press time in heat-compressing process. Coefficients of swelling to thickness decreased suddenly as the pressing temperature increased, and coefficients of swelling in compressed wood made at 200 c fix 50 min and 70 min were below 40 percent. Internal check of compressed wood was obseved in ray of latevv Ood than that of earl ywood.
