The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of Hans Wegner s chair design at through analyzing his works. He shows his concern about interrelation between users and works, deeply understands their shapes from the organic side, and offers a view to see objects more simply. In the side of materials, he uses modern materials as well as traditional materials like wood, particularly, teak and oak, which starts from selecting the wood proper for various standards like wood color, wood-grain, and wood-gnarl. The shape of chair s legs, seat, arm-holder, and back-holder, which is achieved inside one organic rhythm, shows that it is a process minimizing the work most simply. This kind of simplifying process doesn t stop at its outward design but shows an aspect of working continually with the same subject or developing new designs from it. Also, he surely recognizes matters as a design considering users before recognizing his works as art. His process of making works, which considers users in each manufacturing stage, originates in an emphasis on a thorough experimental mind solving both problems of structural factors and problems of functional elements. The process is necessitated in each proper stage when making products reflect their constitutional logics to show them users. They are concerning ideas expressed into design, at the same time, show stories emphasized by designers in artistic products.
