가정교육과 남학생으로 살아가기에 대한 내러티브 탐구

Narrative Inquiry of Living As A Male Student in the Department of Home Economics Education

목적 본 연구는 가정교육과에서 남학생으로 살아가는 것은 어떤 경험을 하는 것인가를 이해하는데 목적을 둔다. 방법 연구참여자는 서울 소재 가정교육과에 재학 중인 5명의 3~4학년 남학생이며, 이들 삶의 경험을 이들이 구성해 낸 이야기를 통해 이해하려는 내러티브 탐구의 연구방법을 활용하였다. 결과 연구참여자들은 가정과교육에 높은 만족감과 자긍심을 갖고 있었으나 일부 수업내용은 지나치게 여성 편향적이라고 하였다. 학과 안에서는 힘쓰는 일에 동원되는 등 ‘남자’라는 고정관념에 직면하였고 다수의 여학생 속에서 어디에 껴야 할지 모르는 등의 소수로서의 삶을 살아가고 있었다. 학과 밖에서는 가정교육과를 여학생/여성의 학과로 여기는 고정관념에 맞서고 있었다. 남학생들은 자신들의 어려움을 해결하기 위해 남학생들로 구성된 소위 ‘남성부’를 만들어 실제적 도움을 주고받았다. 결론 가정교육과 남학생의 삶을 이해한다는 것은 이들의 경험을 가정교육과 교육과정에 반영해 가정교육과의 것으로 만드는 것을 의미한다. 이는 젠더 통합적인 가정교육과로 거듭나기 위한 토대가 될 것이다.

Objectives The purposes of this study is to understand what the person living as a male student in the Department of Home Economics Education experiences. Methods The experiences of five male students in grades 3 and 4 who are in the Department of Home Economics Education in Seoul and have experience in military enlistment were examined in the narrative inquiry method. Results The study participants had high levels of satisfaction and pride in family education but said that some class contents were too female-biased. Within the department, they faced the stereotype of ‘man’, such as being mobilized for hard work, and they were living their lives as a minority, not knowing where to fit among the many female students. Outside the department, they were facing the stereotype that the Department of Home Economics Education was a girl student/female department. In order to solve their difficulties, the male students formed a so-called “male club” consisting of male students to give and receive practical help. Conclusions Understanding the life of male students in the Department of Home Economics Education means reflecting their experiences in the curriculum of the Department of Home Economics Education to make the experiences possessed by the Department of Home Economics Education. This will be the basis for the department to be reborn as a gender-integrated Department of Home Economics Education.
