유아의 기질과 사회적 유능성의 관계에서 실행기능의 매개효과

The Mediating Effect of Young Children s Executive Function on the Relationship Between Temperament and Social Competence

본 연구는 유아의 기질과 사회적 유능성의 관계에서 실행기능의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구 대상자는 경기도 소재 어린이집의 만 4~5세 반에 재원 중인 유아 323명이었으며, 어머니 보고를 통해 유아의 기질, 실행기능, 사회적 유능성을 평가하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 26.0을 사용하여 기술통계, 상관분석을 하였으며, PROCESS Macro version 3.5(Model 4)를 사용하여 매개효과를 검증하였다. 매개효과의 통계적 유의성을 검증하기 위해 부트스트래핑을 활용하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아의 부정적 정서 기질은 사회적 유능성에 직접 영향을 미치기도 하지만 실행기능을 매개하여 간접 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 유아의 의도적 통제 기질은 사회적 유능성에 직접 영향을 미치기도 하지만 실행기능을 매개하여 간접 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과에서 총효과, 간접효과, 직접효과를 비교하였을 때 간접효과가 직접효과보다 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 유아의 기질이 인지적 특성을 의미하는 실행기능을 거쳐 사회적 유능성에 영향을 미치는 간접효과의 중요성을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 연구결과는 유아의 사회적 유능성 발달을 위한 교육 및 상담 프로그램의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the mediating effect executive function on the relationship between each subtype of temperament and social competence in young children. The survey was conducted on 323 mothers of young children aged 4 to 5 from daycare centers in Gyeonggi-do. Participants responded to questionnaires that measured temperament, executive function and social competence of their young children. The collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis using SPSS 26.0. Furthermore, the mediating effect was analyzed using the PROCESS Macro for SPSS version 3.5 (Model 4) and the statistical significance of the meditating effect was examined by bootstrapping. The results were as follow. First, young children’s negative affectivity had a significant direct effect on social competence. Young children’s negative affectivity also had a significant indirectly effect on social competence through executive function. Second, young children’s effortful control had a significant direct effect on social competence. Young children’s effortful control also had a significant indirectly effect on social competence through executive function. The results of this study add to a better understanding of the mechanism linking temperament to social competence in young children and especially emphasize the importance of young children’s executive function for social competence.
