The Relationship between the Patient s Need for Scaling and Periodic Scaling for Dental Hygienists

Objectives: This study was conducted to understand the relationship between patients needs for dental hygienists and oral health education needs and periodic scaling. Methods: The study surveyed patients who visited dental clinics in B city for health insurance covered scaling, and their responses were statistically analyzed using SPSS ver. 25.0. Results: Among the demands for oral health care, “oral health education method” and “explanation of precautions after scaling” were found to be related to “periodic scaling”. Conclusions: It is thought that patient satisfaction should be improved through explanation and education of precautions after scaling as well as efforts to strengthen the scaling capacity of dental hygienists to minimize patient discomfort during scaling.
