통일과 삶의 관계 그리고 통일-하위문화

Relations of Life and Unification and Unification-subculture

현재 통일담론의 당위성이 약화됨으로써 삶에 밀착한 통일 담론의 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 본 연구는 통일과 삶의 사이의 관계에 초점을 맞추고 양자의 ‘연결방식’이 변형되고 증식하는 양상을 검토하기 위해 통일-하위문화 개념을 제안하였다. 하위문화란 한 사회에서 권위적·정통적·전통적인 위상을 지닌 문화에 대해, 그 사회의 일부 집단에 한정된 위상과 의미를 지니는 부분-문화이다. 통일-하위문화는 통일(담론) 전체를 대표하지는 않지만 여전히 주류 문화와의 관계에서 하위(sub)에 놓여 있기에 일반적인 통일(담론)과 동떨어져 존재하는 것도 아니다. 이 글에서 검토할 통일-하위문화영역의 예는 북한이탈 주민, 남북한 접촉지대, 이북5도청이다. 각각의 예에서 공식적인 통일 담론과 정책에 큰 영향을 받지만 그것을 전용하여 또 다른 의미가 생산된다는 점을 확인할 수 있다. 이미 존재하고 작동 중인 통일-하위문화는 정치체제 중심에 놓는 통일담론과 삶 중심 혹은 생활담론을 포함한 통일 담론을 그 내부에서 종합한다. 각각의 통일-하위문화는 통일에 대한 전제, 정의, 실현방안 등을 서로 다른 방식으로 정의하며 이에 기대어 또 다른 통일담론을 만들어낼 수 있다.

As the justification of the discourse of unification is weakened, the need for a discourse of unification close to life is being raised. This article proposes the concept of unification-subculture in order to focus on the relationship between unification and life. Unfication-subcultures do not represent the whole unification discourse as subculture has a limited status and meaning to some groups in that society. Using the concept of sub-culture I review three examples of unification-subculture: North Korean defectors, contact zones of two Koreas, and the five northern korea province. In each example, it is greatly influenced by formal unification discourse and policy, aach unification-subculture defines and realizes a scheme for unification in different ways, and provides clues to create another discourse on unification.
