Democracy and Public Responsibility of the Church: Legal Ethical Reflections on the Confessions of the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church

본 논문은 기독교대한성결교회 신앙고백서의 윤리적 해석을 통해 교회의 공적 책임의 이론적 기초를 설명하고, 민주주의의 증진을 위한 법윤리적 과제를 제시하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 교회의 공적 책임은 복음의 전파와 이웃 사랑의 실천을 의미한다. 이 책임이 구현되어야 할 영역인 민주주의는 타락한 인간의 제도이고, 잠정적 성격을 지닌 불완전한 정치 체제이다. 공적 책임을 가진 교회는 비판적 충성의 태도를 바탕으로 민주주의의 개선에 기여해야 한다. 이를 위해 자유와 평등의 실현을 통해 인간 존엄성의 보호에 공헌하는 법윤리적 성찰이 중요하다. 특히 교회는 종교의 자유의 보장과 빈곤층의 평등의 구현에 관심을 기울여야 한다.

his study aims to clarify the foundations of the public responsibility of the church through the ethical approach to the Confessions of the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church and to show the legal ethical tasks that serve the development of democracy. The public responsibility of the church relates to the spread of the gospel and the realization of charity. Democracy, in which this responsibility is to be concretized, is the institution based on the doctrine of the fall of man. It is an incomplete system that has a provisional character in contrast to the kingdom of God. The church should contribute to the improvement of democracy by taking seriously the principle of critical loyalty. In order to guarantee human dignity, which is connected to the values of freedom and equality, reflection on legal ethics is necessary. Above all, the church should strive to protect religious freedom and to achieve equality for the poor.
