여성의 재취업 결정요인에 관한 종단적 연구

A study on the determinants of women’s reemployment

이 연구는 여성의 재취업에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하는 데 목적이 있다. 한국 여성의 생애주기에서 나타나는 M자형 경제활동 곡선과 선행연구는 여성의 경력단절이 출산과 자녀 돌봄으로 인한 것이라는 것을 보여준다. 그러나 직장을 그만두는 것에 초점을 둔 경력단절 연구가 많은 것에 비해, 재취업과 그 요인에 대한 연구는 상대적으로 적은 편이다. 이 연구는 경력단절이 여성이 결혼, 출산으로 취업을 중단하는 것 이외에 돌봄 등으로 인한 재취업의 어려움에 기인한다는 문제의식에 서 출발한다. 돌봄이 여성의 재취업에 미치는 요인을 파악하기 위해, 이 연구는 한국노동패널 (KLIPS) 1~23차 자료를 분석했다. 여성과 남성 표본을 분리해서 분석한 결과에 따르면, 미취학 자녀와 취학 자녀 수의 효과는 여성의 재취업에만 유의미한 영향을 보여주었다. 이는 돌봄의 부담이 여성에게 주로 부과됨에 따라 여성의 재취업을 제약하고 있다는 것을 보여준다. 미취학 자녀와 취학 자녀 수를 비교할 경우, 미취학 자녀 수는 여성의 재취업 가능성을 줄이지만, 취학 자녀 수는 여성의 재취업 가능성을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 가구소득은 취업 자녀 수가 재취업 가능성에 미치는 영향을 줄이는 것으로 나타났다. 결론에서는 연구 결과를 바탕으로 한 정책 방향을 제시한다.

This research analyzed the factors on women’s reemployment by the event history analysis on longitudinal data. The M-shaped curve in the employment rate of Korean women across ages shows that women’s career interruptions are due to childbirth and child care. However, existing studies focus on women’s exit from the labor market without examining difficulties of returning to employment. We argue that it is important to examine why women are less likely to return to an employment to understand their career interruption. We examined the factors affecting women’s reemployment by the event history analysis of the Korea Labor & Income Panel Study (KLIPS) data. The results show that, comparing men and women, the effects of the number of preschool children and of school-aged children were significant only for women’s reemployment. This implies that the responsibility of child care constrains women’s reemployment. We also found that the number of preschool children decreases women’s chances of reemployment, whereas the number of school-aged children increased it. Furthermore, the positive effect of the number of school-aged children on women’s reemployment is moderated as their household income increases.
