대학의 토론 수업에서 활용할 토론 루브릭 개발 연구

Developing a Debate Rubric for University Debate Classes

이 연구는 대학생을 대상으로 하는 토론 수업에서 활용할 수 있는 토론 루브릭을구안하는 데 목적이 있다. 평가 도구인 루브릭은 평가 목표, 평가 범주, 평가 내용과수준, 평가 준거를 담고 있는 평가 기준안으로 학습자의 교육 활동 참여 수준을 높이게 된다. 토론 평가에서 루브릭을 활용하면 교수자는 학습자의 토론 능력 발달 단계를 알 수 있고 피드백하기 용이하며, 학습자에게는 자신의 토론 능력을 점검하고 부족한 부분을 보완하도록 돕는 긍정적 효과가 있다. 토론 평가 항목 내지 준거에 관한 선행연구를 비판적으로 검토하고 토론 교육 목적및 목표를 근거로 분석적 토론 루브릭 평가 기준표를 개발하였다. 토론 루브릭 평가준거는 ‘사고 역량, 표현 역량, 형식 이해 역량’을 대범주로 한다. 그리고 ‘사고 역량’ 의 하위 항목은 ‘분석력, 논증력, 비판력’이고 ‘표현 역량’의 하위 항목은 ‘언어기술 능력, 전달력’이다. 수행 수준은 벤치마크(시작 단계), 마일스톤(발전 단계), 캡스톤(최종 단계)으로 하며 하위 수준은 1~4단계로 하여 수행 항목별 수행 수준을 기술하였다. 이 연구에서 제안한 토론 루브릭은 특정한 유형의 토론에 국한되는 것이 아니며, 교수자나 학습자 모두 이해하기 쉽고, 토론 교육 현장에서 즉각적으로 활용될 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 결국 이 연구 결과는 토론 수업의 질을 높이는 데 기여한다는 의의가 있다. 다만, 개발한 토론 루브릭의 실제 토론 교육 적용에 대한 연구는 후속 과제로남겨둔다.

The purpose of this study is to create a debate rubric that can be used in a debate class for college students. A rubric is an evaluation standard that contains evaluation goals, categories, content and level, and criteria. It that serves to increase learners’ participation in educational activities. Based on a review of previous studies of debate evaluation criteria, and the purpose of debate education, an analytical debate rubric evaluation standard table was developed. The criteria for the debate rubric include “thinking competency,” “expression competency,” and “debate format understanding competency” as major categories. Meanwhile, the sub-items of “thinking competency” include “analytical thinking,” “argumentative thinking,” and “critical thinking,” and the sub-items of “expression competence” are “language skills competency” [and] “delivery ability.” The performance levels are divided into: benchmark (starting stage), milestone (development stage), and capstone (final stage). The sub-levels are numbered 1-4 to describe the performance level for each item. The debate rubric is not limited to a specific type of debate, and has the advantage of being easy to understand by both instructors and learners. It can also be used immediately in the field of debate education.
