지눌에게 경절문이 성적등지문보다 우위인가?

Is the Shortcut approach superior to the Waking and Quelling Samāhitā approach for Chinul?: Focused on the relevant passages from Excerpts from the Dharma Collection and Special Practice Record with Personal Notes

본 논문에서는 지눌에게 있어 경절문이 성적등지문보다 우위라는 일각의 통념에 반대한다. 지눌 입적 후 김군수가 『조계산수선사불일보조국사비명』에서 제시한 성적등지문·원돈신해문·경절문의 3문의 구도가 보조사상의 전체 구도를 가장 잘 드러낸다는 점 자체에 대해서는 연구자 사이에 대체로 합의가 모아져 왔으나 이 구도 자체를 의심하는 소수의견들 또한 있었다. 이에 특히 3문 전체나 일부를 아예 거부하는 입장들을 살펴본 결과, 그들의 논의에 내재적·외재적 결함이 많음을 확인하였다. 이어 3문의 구도가 가장 잘 나타난 『법집별행록절요병입사기』 자체를 본격적인 분석의 대상으로 삼고 있는 연구들 중에서 여전히 성적등지문보다 경절문이 우월하다고 보는 경우를 소개한 다음, 그들이 염두에 두었을 법한 『법집별행록절요병입사기』의 관련 구절을 재검토하여 그들의 독해가 공유하는 문제점을 보였다. 이어 경절문의 우위 주장과 관련해 추가로 제출될 수 있는 논리를 구성해보고 다시 그에 대한 재반론을 실시하였다.

This article opposes to the common belief that the Shortcut approach is regarded by Chinul as superior to the Waking and Quelling Samāhitā approach. Chinul’s biographical inscription by an officer Kun-su Kim presents the so-called ‘three approaches’ composed of the Waking and Quelling Samāhitā approach, the Complete and Sudden Adhimukti approach, and the Shortcut approach, which have been seen by the most important researchers as the best illustration of his whole thought, with a few exceptions of course. After examining those opinions that reject the three approaches in total or some parts of them, I was able to confirm that their arguments have some intrinsic and extrinsic flaws. And then I introduced other views which especially concentrate on Excerpts from the Dharma Collection and Special Practice Record with Personal Notes, the optimal target for our discussion and still insist on the common belief in question. I specified the crucial passages seemingly in support of their positions and came up with my own alternative reading of them. I went even further by conjecturing and refuting other possible reasons in favor of the conventional understanding.
