Analysis of VOCs which are Emitted during Nail Care Using Direct-reading Measuring Instrument

Recently, South Korean nail industry has rapidly grown. At the same time, the number of people in nail business has increased at a fast pace. In addition, the number of the materials used for nail treatments has considerably increased. Nail products contain various chemical substances which are mostly made with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In fact, they have a significant influence on human health, causing serious health problems. Therefore, this study attempted to analyze VOCs which are produced during nail care, using a simple direct-reading measuring instrument with which nail salon workers are able to measure and analyze VOCs in person and establish a quantitative experiment method concerning the amount of such air pollutants emitted. It is anticipated that the study results would provide basic data which are needed to raise the minimum safety consciousness of nail salon workers which are repeatedly exposed to hazardous substances and improve their perception on behavior guidelines.
