A New Interpretation of Yu Kwan Soon Korean National Consciousness and Independence Movement

The Purpose of this study is to investigate the Yu Kwan Soon korean na- tional consciousness and independence spirit. And through this article, we wanted to give some lights to new interpretation of the Yu Kwan Soon. In order to explore Yu Kwan Soon christian faith and spiritual growth, we approached to Mrs, Alice Hammond Sharp printed material. But it needs the more accurate historical information. We could found the another face of the Yu Kwan Soon through her own character of freedom and unthinkable humor. An episode of prayer which had happened in the Ewha School revealed her peaceful smile. Especially, we analyzed the contents of the ？？유관순 MANSEI! － THE STORY OF YU KWAN SOON, THE KOREAN JOAN OF ARC？A(Hawaii, Honolulu, The Korean Pacific Weekly, 1953). Then, we recognized that the ko- rean legacy of Hwarangdo, the DongHak and Christian Truth of freedom co worked in the deep formation of Yu Kwan Soon korean national consciousness and independence spirit.
