The Distance of the Spiritual Life and the Material Life: A Comparative Study on the Lives of Yu, Kwansoon and Kim, Younsil

In this thesis I have compared the life of Yu, Kwansoon who had died for Korean national independence in the colonized society with the life of Kim, Younsil who is a heroin in Kimyounsiljeon through the point of spiritual world and material world. In Kimyounsiljeon, the matters of the rise of the western capitalism, the strategy of imperialism and the Japanese tact of colonialism are described accurately on an axis of the problem of the moral decadence through the corruption of Kim s life. As the story is, Kim s life is locked in the form of money and ethical bankrupt under the name of women liberation. Yu s life is quite the contrary of Kim s, although they had been born and lived contemporary time. The important condition of this distance is in their home environment. Kim s is entangled with the problem of money and ethical bankrupt that is the social trait of national ruin, and on the contrary Yu s is related to the social reform, the women enlightenment, and the educational work that is the important signal of the rescue of country. Especially, Yu who received Jesus Christ in young age grown up to the girl full of faith. When this spirit of Christ affected not only to the people s real life, but also to the national movement in that time, such her faith was reduced to the 3 ‧1 national independence revolution which made her life into the serious part of the history of mankind. This distance of two women s life is the distinct illustration that shows the meaning of the material life and the spiritual life in the modern history stained with the ideology of capitalism, imperialism and colonialism. One is on the dimension of death and the other is on the resurrection of the historical precept.
