The 1919(Samil) Independence Movement and Korean Modern Literature: Focus on the Poetry in 1920s and 1930s

We celebrated the 90th anniversary of Samil Independence Movement this year. It has been ninety years since the Movement took place. Most of all Koreans had gone through the most humiliating experiences in Japan s 1910-1945 colonial rule of Korea in the nation s history with a history of five thousand years. The 1919(Samil) Independence Movement rose against the Japanese suppression all over the country, announcing the world to free ourselves from the dishonorable living similar to a condition of slavery. That is one of the most important events in the Korean history. The Movement, however, ended in failure leaving us a sense of crushing defeat. The purpose of this paper is to research the way of introducing the Samil Movement into Korean literature especially the Korean poetry in 1920s and 1930s after the Movement. For the purpose of it, this paper deals with the favoring trend of accepting the Movement, focusing on the poems of some poets of those days.
