March 1st Movement and The Religious Integration of Chundogyo

On March 1,1919, an unprecedented wave of anti-demonstration, took place, in a concerted resistance movement that erupted in every part of the country and gradually spread to embrace all the people. The movement was elaborately planned well in advance by patriot in exile and a few leader at home. A group of 33 leaders at the major religion_Chundogyo(represented by Son byung hi, 1861-1922), Christianity, and Buddhism drew up the Declamation of Korea Independence and placed their signatures on it. At home and abroad Korean leaders thought it was not bad to struggle Japanese colonial rule. Chundogyo endeavor to unite religious union for national restoration and lead other religious leaders. The three demonstration principle: Nonviolence, enlightening the mass, and one dimensional leading system. The movement encouraged the people to understanding national identity, participating, demonstration, and the importance of nation. Leaders in Chundogyo endeavor to participate and support the sacrifice for nation and prosper people in accordance to the belief system of Chundogyo. As March 1movement was erupted in large-scale nationwide demonstrations of nonviolence, the Japanese tried to suppress it with torture and massacre. But repression was not so easy, and Japanese government general had to change its policy to one of governance through cultural domination. In March 1 movement, it was important that religious union effort was built up by leaders in this country. Although we achieve the independent national state, we have had national union spirit. After March 1movement. it was an opportunity to establish the Provisional government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai. This marked turning point to in the independent movement. The nonviolence movement of religious leaders was the foundation of national union spirit. Early years of 1990s, Chundogyo leaders contributed our national identity and led unified effort as possible The spirit of March 1 movement is the Pharos beacon of our society in reference to democratic order. Today we have to remember the spirit of March 1 movement and the Great Leaders and we have to learn their leadership and unification spirit. Let us remember history!
