백제설화 연구 성과의 점검과 전망

A Examination and Prospect of Study of Baekje Tales

이 글은 이제까지 백제사와 관련된 설화논저를 종합적으로 정리하여 새로운 연구를 위한 전망을 모색해보기 위한 것이다. 다루어진 주요 논점과 그 내용은 다음과 같다. 백제설화는 백제권 설화로 이해할 필요가 있다. 그런 만큼 이는 백제 고유의 설화라는 엄격한 의미로 규정하기가 어려우며, 그것은 백제 문화권, 또는 백제역사의 영향권에 속하는 설화라는 의미로 보는 것이 합리적이다. 그러나, 일반적으로 백제라는 말은 이미 백제사와 문화 그리고 의식이 포함된 뜻으로도 널리 쓰이므로 객관적으로는 백제권 설화인 경우라 해도 그것이 지닌 의식성을 중시하여 백제설화라고도 부를 수 있다고 보며 이 글에서도 이 말을 이런 뜻으로도 쓰고자 한다. 이제까지 백제설화에 대한 구전자료의 조사는 미흡했다. 이를 위해서는 넓은 시야에서 지속적인 조사를 수행할 것이 요구된다. 백제설화에 대한 그 동안의 연구는 신화와 전설이 중심을 이루어왔으며, 연구대상이 제한된 자료에만 국한되었다. 반대로 민담쪽의 연구는 아주 미흡했다. 앞으로 이 방면에 대하여 깊은 관심을 갖고 자료를 판별하는 일면, 한·중 및 한·일간의 비교연구가 요구된다. 앞으로 백제설화의 발전적인 연구를 위해서는 다음의 문제들이 추구해야 할 중요한 과제가 된다. 1) 자료 조사를 전면적으로 확장하여 연구 대상자료와 연구가능 자료의 범위를 넓혀야 한다. 2) 백제설화의 자료 범위나 내용상의 특성 이해는 비교연구의 관점을 확대하는 데에서 성과를 기대할 수 있으므로 이 방면 연구의 확대와 심화가 요구된다. 3) 이와 함께, 설화의 깊이 있는 이해를 위해서는 연구방법의 다양화를 추구하는 일이 필요하다.

The purpose of this study is to suggest a prospective study of Baekje Tales by generalizing arguments about the tales related to the history of Baekj. The key points of the study can be summarized as follow. 1. It is difficult to define Baekje tale as an original Baekje tale strictly. It is seen as tale which comes under Baekje culture or the influence of its history. 2. Baekje tales can be categorized into mythology, legend and folktale. We can classify the material according to the types of stories. 3. Until now it has been insufficient to survey Baekje tales handed down orally. It is necessary to examine them continually. 4. The study of Baekje tale has focused on mythology and legend, and only on limited material. The study of folktales has been insufficient. More surveys and comparative studies are also necessary. 5. The following should be complete for further study of Baekje tales. 1) survey widely 2) expand and deepen a comparative study 3) vary the methods of study
