풍납토성 출토 외래유물에 대한 검토

Exotic Artifacts Unearthed from the Pungnab Earthen Wall and Their Implications

서울시 풍납토성에서 출토된 유물 중에는 한성지역 이외의 장소에서 제작된 후 이입된 것들이 상당량에 달한다. 이들 외래품들을 변별해내고 그 출처 및 시기를 추정해봄으로써 한성기 백제의 대외교섭의 양상과 지방 지배방식에 대해 관찰할 수 있었다. 3세기 대에는 중국과의 교섭이 주류를 이루어서 서진의 시유도기와 오수전, 낙랑토기 등이 출토되고 있다. 4세기 대의 양상은 분명치 않은데 백제권역에서 그 동안 출토된 많은 양의 청자류를 고려할 때 東晋과의 교섭이 활발히 전개되었을 것으로 보인다. 다만 동진 물품의 출토량이 적은 것은 지방지배를 위해 각지로 분여되었기 때문일 것이다. 대외교섭이 가장 활발한 모습을 보이는 것은 5세기 대이다. 중국과의 교섭은 지속적으로 유지되었을 것으로 보이는데, 새로이 倭의 물품이 이입되는 현상이 주목된다. 그 다음은 소가아를 위시한 西部慶南産 물품의 이입이다. 백제와 가야의 긴밀한 관계가 한성기에 이미 시작되었음을 보여준다. 충청지역 각지의 물품도 품납토성에서 출토되고 있는데 이는 백제 중앙의 지방지배 방식의 일환이었다고 여겨진다.

A large number of exotic artifacts were uncovered from the Purignab Earthen Wall, located in southern bank of the Han River. This paper attempts to identify such artifacts introduced from the outside, which in turn provides the basis on which we can examine aspects of Paekche s (Baekje) external relationship and administrative structure controling local political entities. West Jin stoneware, metal coins, and Lelang pottery remains show the close relationship between Paekche and Chinese polities during the third century A.D. Aspects of Paekche s external relationship during the fourth century are not clear, while a large amount of ceramic ware fragments so far unearthed from the Paekche territory suggests the existence of exchange network with East Jin. Artifacts dated to the fifth century indicate Paekche s maintenance of external relationship with China while objects introduced from other regions and polities, such as Japanese Wa and Maya (Gaya) are included in the collection. Especially the Kaya objects suggest that Paekche already established relationship with polities, such as Sokaya, in southeastern Korean Peninsula in the fifth century. Various local artifacts introduced from the Chungcheong region also show the aspects of Paekche s administrative control over the region.
