出雲風土記의 里程에 나타난 古韓尺

Kohan-scale(an old Korean scale) revealed in the mileage description of Izumo-Fudoki

天平 5年(733)에 편찬된 出雲風土記에는 300건 이상의 里程(거리)에 대한 기록이 있는데, 그 중에는 182里 192步 등 지나치게 자세한 표시가 많이 포함되어 있다. 이는 尺貫法부터 미터法으로 전면적으로 이행한 지 30년이 지난 오늘날에도 建材 등의 치수를 端數가 있는 밀리 단위로 표시하는 예가 많은 것과 마찬가지로 舊單位系부터 환산되었을 가능성이 높음을 시사하는 것이다. 이러한 관점에서 出雲風土記에 나오는 里程(거리)을 자세히 분석한 결과, 당시의 天平에尺 대해 환산율이 0.8811의 관계에 있는 舊尺度系가 존재했음이 추정되었다. 이는 한국과 일본의 많은 고대 유적의 계측치에서 복원된 古韓尺의 길이와 일치된다. 出雲風土記에 나오는 里程 가운데 古韓尺系 里程이 나타나는 것은 ??道湖 주변에 있는 5郡의 郡家에서 각 鄕까지의 거리나 각 郡 사이의 通道 관련 기사에 집중되어 있어 出雲國 서남부의 4郡이나 山·河·嶋·池와 관련되는 기사에서는 거의 확인되지 않는다. 이것은 出雲鳳土記가 참조한 舊 기록의 성격을 나타내는 것으로 出雲風土記 再撰說이나 勘造 후 增補設에 새로운 자료를 제공하는 것이다.

More than 300 mileage description on Izumo country reveal in Izumo-Fudoki edited in A.D.733(one of the oldest book in Japan), in which there are many extraordinary fine figures such as 182 Ri 192 Bo. This strongly suggests that these mileages would have been converted from an old scale unit. Analyzing these mileage data from this viewpoint, the author finds out an old scaling system which is exactly corresponding to 0.8811 times of the Tenpyo scale length(29.8㎝) used in those days. This scale well agrees with Kohan-scale(an old Korean scale) which has been restored from the many measuring data of ancient ruins in Korea and Japan. Moreover these mileage data based on Kohan-scale only concentrate in the items of 5 districts near Shinji-lake but not in the other districts like east-southern parts. This suggests the character of the original record referred by Izumo-Fudoki and will provide new standpoint for the re-editing theory or the revising theory of Izumo-Fudoki.
