百濟 「大通寺式」수막새의 성립과 전개

The Establishment and Development of the Baekje Daetongsa-style Roof Tile

본고에서는 大通寺止에서 출토된 「大通寺式」수막새의 성립과 전개, 그리고 일본으로의 영향을 검토하였다. 「大通寺式」수막새는 中國 南朝 梁으로부터 새롭게 도입된 瓦當文樣 및 造瓦文樣 및 造瓦技術에 의해 성립되었으며, 성립의 직접적인 계기는 熊津期未 大通寺의 창건이었던 것으로 추측된다. 또한 泗개비 遷都를 계기로 佛敎寺院을 비롯한 제시설의 조영을 통해 다시 南朝 梁의 造瓦拉術이 도입되었을 것으로 판단된다. 南朝 梁에 기원을 둔 造瓦技術에 의해 생산된 「大通寺式」수막새는 이후 백제에 있어서 중심적인 瓦當文樣 및 제작기법으로 전개된다. 그리고 그 영향은 곧 일본 등 주변 국가들에도 파급된다. 일본에서 최초의 佛敎寺院인 飛鳥寺 조영에서 일본의 요청으로 백제에서 파견된 瓦工集團, 즉 『日本書紀』에 기록된 瓦博士의 一派도 바로 「大通寺式」수막새를 생산하던 瓦工이었던 것으로 생각된다. 商朝 梁에서 백제로 새로운 造瓦技術이 전래되고, 그 기술이 백제의 瓦博士에 의해 일본에 전해질 때까지 약 반세기, 「大通寺式」수막새의 성립 및 전개의 과정을 통해 中國 商朝系 造瓦技術에 대한 전파양상의 일단을 엿볼 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

The present essay examines the establishment and development of Baekje Daetongsa-style roof tile and its influence on the ancient Japanese culture. The Daetongsa-style roof tile emerged as new designs and techniques were induced from southern China, while the Daetongsa Temple itself was constructed in the late Ungjin Period. The Daetongsa style prevailed as the major roof tile making technique and design motif afterwards, and it also spreaded into nearby Japan. Baekje dispatched craftsmen to Japan in constructing Asuka-dera, the first Buddhist temple in Japan, which is also evidenced by the article in Nihon Shoki. the Daetaongsa style roof tile provides good measure to examine some half century diffusion of the material culture from southem China to Japan via Baekje.
