5세기 백제와 倭國의 관계

The relations between Baekje(百濟) and Wa(倭) in 5th century

이 논문에서 나는 다음과 같은 내용을 주장하였다. 첫째 5세기의 百濟와 倭의 관계는 5세기 초 傭兵關係 의 성립으로 시작되었다. 그것을 초래한 직접적 계기는 高句麗의 남하였다. 백제는 倭의 군사력을 동원하면서 그 댓가로 왜가 필요로 하는 선진 문물과 자원 물자를 제공하였다. 이러한 방식은 6세기에 나타난 양국 관계의 선구적 형태였다고 할 수 있다. 그리고 백제-왜-伽倻의 공조로 구성된 反고구려 연합 전선에서 주도적인 역할을 한 것은 백제였다. 둘째 5세기 중반의 羅·濟同盟의 성립은 5세기 초의 고구려-신라 vs 백제-가야-왜의 대항 구도에 변동을 가져 왔다. 백제-신라의 군사 공조 체제의 성립으로 말미암아 왜의 對고구려 전투에의 개입 여지가 현저하게 축소되었다. 5세기 중반 昆支가 왜국에 파견된 것은 이러한 정세의 변화에 대한 백제의 입장이 반영된 것으로서 백제와 왜국·신라 각각과의 우호 관계를 유지시키기 위한 목적에서 이루어진 것이었다. 셋째 5세기 말 熊津時代의 개막 이후 백제와 왜의 관계는 전반적으로 우호 관계에 있었다고 생각되나 東城王의 시대에는 신라와 좀더 긴밀한 관계에 있었을 가능성을 제기하였다. 그래서 필자는 『日本書紀에』 기술된 것처럼 양국 관계가 일시적으로 소원해진 시기도 있었지 않았나 추정을 하였다. 하지만 武寧王의 즉위 후 양국은 전에 없는 긴밀한 유대 관계를 형성하였다. 용병관계 의 본격적인 개막이 바로 그것이었다.

In this paper I have argued as follows: Firstly, the relations between Baekje and Wa in 5th century were begun by establishing a kind of mercenary-relations (傭兵關係) between them in the beginning of the 5th century. The moment that caused it was the southward advance of the state Goguryo. Baekje had mobilized the military forces and at the cost of it offered her advanced culture and materials, which Wa was needed. That was the pioneering form of the relations between two states in 6th century. It was Baekje that had played the leading role in the anti-goguryo-front, which was consisted among the States Baekje, Wa and Gaya. Secondly, the making of the Silla-Baekje alliance in the mid of 5th century brought on a change in the rivalry relations between Goguryo-Silla and Baekje-Gaya-Wa in the beginning of 5th century. The making of the closer military cooperation system between Baekje and Silla made the intervention in the war of Wa against Goguryo difficult. In the mid-5th century Baekje had dispatched Konji (昆支) to Wa in order to keep the friendly relations with Wa and Silla. Thirdly, since the opening of the Ungjin-period (熊津時代) in the end of 5th century Baekje seemed to have been generally in friendly relations with Wa, but I have argued that in the reign of King Dongseung (東城王) Baekje could have closer relations with silla, so I have guessed that the relation between Baekje and Wa had become estranged for a short time as written in『nihon shoki (日本書紀)』. After the accession to the throne of King Moonyeong (武寧王) two states had come into best relations again, which was the beginning of mercenary-relation.
