무령왕릉 묘지석에 사용된 역법과 상장례기간

Calendar Used in the Stone Tablet of the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong and Funeral Periods

백제문화의 우수성을 오늘의 우리에게 입증해준 백제 무령왕릉의 발굴은 문화적 충격이었다. 이전까지 백제문화의 진면목을 제대로 보여줄 무엇인가가 남아있지 않은 상태에서 왕릉이 발견된 것이다. 이곳에서는 무령왕의 묘지석과 왕비의 묘지석이 발견되었다. 이를 통해 『三國史記』기록이 정확하다는 사실이 증명되었으며, 백제에서 중국 사서에 기록된 내용처럼 원가력(元嘉曆)이라는 역법이 사용되었을 가능성이 더 높아졌다. 하지만 근래에 대명력(大明曆)이 사용되었을 가능성이 제시되었다. 이에 이 글에서는 무령왕의 묘지석과 왕비의 묘지석에 기록되어 있는 사망기록과 상장례일자를 이용하여 상장례기간을 추론하였다. 왕과 왕비의 상장례기간에 윤달이 들게 되는데 이때 왕비의 경우 역법에 따라 윤달의 위치가 달라지는 현상이 나타난다. 이를 이용하면, 백제에서 적어도 무령왕과 왕비의 상장례가 있던 시기에는 대명력이 아니라 원가력이 사용되었을 가능성이 더 높아지게 되었다. 또, 백제에서 사용된 상장례기간은 25개월 또는 27개월을 사용하는 중국과 달리 백제식 만28개월[중국식으로 29개월]이었음을 알게 되었다. 이를 바탕으로 묘지석에 기록되어 있지 않은 무령왕비의 사망일자는 11월 1일부터 13일 사이에 해당할 것이라 추론하였다.

The discovery of the royal tomb of King Muryeong of the Baekje Dynasty that showed us the excellence of the Baekje culture was a culture shock. A royal tomb was discovered at a time when there was nothing to exhibit the true characters of the Baekje culture. The stone tablets of King Muryeong and his queen were discovered here. This proved the accuracy of the records of ‘Samguksagi’『三國史記』. The stone tablet showed that the calendar called the Wunga Almanac<元嘉曆> was used in Baekje just as recorded in Chinese records. However, it was recently suggested that the Daemyung Almanac<大明曆> may have been used. Accordingly, this paper made an inference on the funeral period using the death records and funeral schedule recorded in the stone tablets of King Muryeong and his queen. The king and queen’s funeral period was in the leap month, and in the case of the queen, the location of the leap month changes depending on the calendar. When using this, it was found that during the funeral period of King Muryeong and the queen, the Wunga Almanac was probably used instead of the Daemyung Almanac. Furthermore, it was found that unlike China that had 25 months or 27 months, Baekje used a full 28 months [29 months according to the Chinese type] for the funeral period. Based on this, it was estimated that the death of King Muryeong’s wife, which was not recorded on the stone tablet, was between November 1 and 13.
