월남사 가람배치에 관한 고찰

A Study on the Site Layout of Wollamsa Temple

공간은 건축의 기본으로 사찰 건축의 이해를 위해서는 가람 배치 형식에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 탑과 금당, 강당 등 다양한 건물들이 조화롭게 배치되어 있는 가람 배치 형식은 각 시대마다 그 모습을 달리하고 있으며, 가람의 형식을 살펴봄으로써 시대성과 지역성을 기반으로 하는 불교 건축 문화를 확인할 수 있다. 월남사(月南寺)는 창건에 있어 자세히 기록된 문헌이 없어 시기를 특정할 수 없었으나 최근 발굴조사를 통해 창건과 가람 배치 형식에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 특히 중심축선을 기준으로 삼층석탑과 대칭되는 위치에서 탑지가 발굴되면서 쌍탑가람이 확인되어 주목을 끌고 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 최근 6년간의 월남사지(月南寺址) 발굴과 석탑 해체 과정을 통하여 월남사 가람배치의 성격을 규명하고자 한다. 월남사 초창에 대한 추정을 위해 영축사지(靈鷲寺址), 천군리사지(千軍里寺址), 불국사(佛國寺), 원원사지(遠願寺址)로 이어지는 유사한 쌍탑가람 사례를 살폈고 이를 통해 정형화된 형태를 확인하였다. 또한 그동안 발굴된 월남사지 유구를 건물지 별로 구분하여 실제 쌍탑가람으로서의 유구에 대한 현황 분석을 진행하였다. 이를 토대로 가람의 초창과 가람 배치 형식 변화에 대한 분석을 하였다. 그 결과 발굴된 유구와 가람배치 양식의 유사사례 분석을 통해 월남사지의 창건 시기를 후삼국시대까지 소급할 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였고, 중심사역 부분에 대한 추정 가람 배치 형식을 제시하였다. 더불어 진각국사(眞覺國師)가 중창한 시기의 가람배치를 확인하고, 후백제시기에 등장하는 쌍탑가람의 가능성을 제시하였다.

Based on the understanding that space is the foundation of architecture, we need to understand the site layout to understand the architecture of the temple. Various types of buildings such as a Stupa, Geumdang and lecture hall are arranged harmoniously in the site layout, and the site layout is different in each age. Therefore, we can confirm the Buddhist culture based on the period and locality by examining the site layout. Wollamsa temple was unable to specify the time because there was no documented detail in its founding. However, the research on the founding and the site layout is progressing through the investigation of the excavation of the Wollamsa temple in recent years. Especially, the Twin-Stupa Temple-Site Lay out was discovered at a location symmetrical with the three-story stone stupa based on the pivot-Line, which is drawing attention of academia. So, the purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of the Site Layout of Wollamsa Temple site through the process of excavation and dismantling of stone stupa of the Site Layout of Wollamsa Temple during the last 6 years. In this study, we surveyed a similar Twin-Stupa Temple-Site Lay out case leading to the Youngchuksa Temple site, Cheongoonrisa Temple site, Bulguksa, Wonwonsa Temple site for the estimation of foundation of the the Wollamsa Temple site. Through this, we confirmed the formal form of the Site Layout. In addition, we analyzed the present situation of the relics as the actual Twin-Stupa Temple-Site Lay out by distinction the building location of the relics in excavated Wollamsa Temple site. Based on the results, this study analyzed the early construction of the Site Layout and the change of the Site Layout. As a result, this study suggested the possibility of retracing the founding period of the Wollamsa Temple site Later Three Kingdoms Period by similar case analysis of the excavated relics and the Site Layout. And this study suggested the estimated form of the Site Layout of the central part of Wollamsa Temple site arrangement. In addition, this study confirmed the Site Layout of the reconstruction period by Jingark Haysim, and suggested the possibility of the Twin-Stupa Temple-Site Lay out appearing in the Later Baekje period.
